Donegal ETB – working in partnership with the local community in Convoy.

Convoy Community & Environmental Committee recently applied for assistance from Donegal ETB’s Community Education Support Programme for the first time. The group is a voluntary group which has been in existence since 2002 and it works on various projects to enhance the beauty of the village of Convoy and ensure the community spirit of Convoy is maintained. It has recently widened its scope to include the provision of educational opportunities for adults in the area and it was in this capacity that it received funding towards the provision of a stone-building course for adults.

The course was delivered in early September over 40 hours by Fanad stone-building tutor Patrick Carr to 8 adult students (7 men and 1 woman) and was a tremendous success. The Group took on all of the course recruitment and organisation itself and Donegal ETB was able to recommend possible tutors and target groups of students. Chairperson Liam Mailey, said that the Group is delighted to be working with Donegal ETB: “This was our first time working with the ETB and we are delighted to be associated with them. We have received funding for two further courses in cookery and baking which will be delivered locally over the autumn. The cookery course commenced on Wednesday 23rd September for 6 weeks and will be followed for a further 6 weeks by a baking course. Our group is all about people working together and we hope to work in partnership with Donegal ETB for a long time to come, to provide education and training opportunities for the people of Convoy and the local area”.
