The building, which spans over 1,600 square metres together with an additional external compound and associated parking, will accommodate more than 200 apprentices annually. The facility will house advanced workshops and learning environments for apprenticeships in Metal Fabrication and Refrigeration and Air Conditioning.

This landmark project, a shared campus where both ETB and Technological University apprenticeship training will take place side by side, will be the first of its kind in Ireland. It was initiated jointly by Donegal ETB, Atlantic Technological University, and SOLAS (An tSeirbhís Oideachais Leanúnaigh agus Scileanna) in 2022.

Speaking at the signing, Donegal ETB Chief Executive Anne McHugh said: “The signing of this construction contract marks a major milestone for apprenticeship training in Donegal and the wider North-West region. This innovative collaboration between Donegal ETB, ATU Donegal, and SOLAS will provide world-class training facilities that meet the needs of both apprentices and employers. We are proud to play a leading role in shaping the future of apprenticeship education in Ireland.”

Ms. McHugh also acknowledged the invaluable support of SOLAS and the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science (DFHERIS) in bringing the project to this stage: “We wish to acknowledge and thank our colleagues in SOLAS and DFHERIS for their continued partnership and support throughout the development of this project.”

Donegal ETB looks forward to the completion of the new Apprenticeship Academy in January 2026 and to working closely with its partners in ATU Donegal to expand apprenticeship opportunities and support regional economic growth.
