Advice, Information and Guidance on Education, Training and Career Options

Thinking of returning to further education or training but not sure what to do?

Choosing to return to education as an adult offers new life choices as well as educational options. With so many courses available, it can be hard to know which is the right one for you.

Some people return to education to explore hobbies or special interests. Others want to learn more so they can help their children with school work. Many want to develop new skills to improve their job prospects or develop a new career.

We provide a professional and confidential service for you to explore your educational, career and life choices and to provide you with the appropriate information, guidance and support so that you can make the right decisions.

Whatever your reason for returning to education and training, Donegal ETB Adult Guidance and Information Service is here to help.

“I was sitting at home thinking “ I’m going nowhere” until I was referred to your service. Now I know I am on the right path. I can’t thank you enough, I had no idea there were so many options out there”

How can Donegal ETB Adult Guidance and Information Service help you?

We can help you:

  • identify your skills, interests and goals in life
  • explore your education and training options and ways of moving forward
  • overcome issues that may be holding you back
  • find the support you need to achieve your goals

 We do this by providing:

  • a respectful and welcoming environment
  • information on courses, training and funding from local national and international education and training providers
  • interest, personality and career assessment
  • one to one guidance sessions with a Guidance Counsellor by appointment
  • access to a network of training, welfare and personal support organisations to support your progression

When you make an appointment with the service you will be met initially by our Information Officer who will clarify your needs, provide information on courses and help you with any interest and career assessments. You will then be referred to one to one guidance with a Guidance Counsellor if you need further support.

Who can access the service?

We provide free and impartial educational and career guidance for those who are considering further education and training and undergraduate study. We also provide guidance to students on Donegal ETB further education and training courses.

Our priority is to support adults who feel that they did not do so well at school and want a second chance to improve their education. We also support those who are in receipt of a social welfare payment to improve their job prospects through education and training.

If you are in full time work or have a third level qualification, you are welcome to access our information service but we will not be in a position to offer you one to one guidance. A list of private guidance practitioners is available on the Institute of Guidance Counsellors website.

Our Information Service is open to all.
