Donegal ETB Welcomes Leaving Certificate Results 2016

Congratulations and well done to all our students who are receiving their Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA) and Leaving Certification Vocational Programme (LCVP) results today. Congratulations also to all the students who have obtained their QQI results from Further Education in the various centres throughout the county. Some 830 students have completed the various examinations options at senior cycle in Donegal ETB Schools, Colleges and Centres. This is complemented by a 350 strong cohort of students receiving QQI results through Further Education.

Ms Anne McHugh, Chief Executive, paid tribute to the staff team in the various schools and centres that helped guide the students through the challenging senior cycle examinations;

‘I congratulate all our teachers, tutors, SNAs and the whole school community for the quality of the teaching and learning which has enabled all our students and learners to complete this important stage of their education. Your help, guidance and support will no doubt serve all our students well in the future’.

Many students will have obtained the necessary CAO points that will enable them to progress to their chosen course. Students who have a shortfall in the necessary points for their chosen course should take a little time and consider the various alternative options.
Dr Martin Gormley, Education Officer states that;

Third level education may not be the best option in all instances and consideration should be given to further education and training programmes available throughout the county’.

Donegal ETB offers a range of PLC (Post Leaving Certificate) courses, Apprenticeships, Short-term Training Courses, Back to Education Initiatives, Community Education and further education at different levels. For those wishing to explore these options, please see our website page for courses and contact numbers.

The First-round of CAO offers for college places will be made on Monday, August 22nd.

If you are disappointed or have concerns in relation to your results, seek assistance and guidance from the Guidance Staff in your school or college. There is a lot of information and help available through a simple telephone call. Guidance staff will also be available to advise on various funding supports that may be available.

Another source of help available is through the National Parents Council helpline which is supported by the Department of Education and Skills to give advice and support to both students and their parents.
