Errigal College

Errigal College is a long established Vocational School under the auspices of Donegal Educational Training Board (ETB).

It was opened in Lower Main Street in September 1914, moved to Ard O Donnell in 1942 and transferred to a new building at Windyhall in September 1987. Since then, that building has had many extensions including, second metalwork and engineering technology room, school canteen, school library, two Autism Spectrum Disorder class rooms (ASD). The college in partnership with the Windyhall Community Development group in 2002 received funding from the Department of Sport and Tourism for the development of playing fields. In 2012, Music, Home Economics, French, and Computer departments were provided. The College recently received confirmation that a grant of €405,600 has been approved by the Department of Education and Skills (DES) for the upgrading of the Science, Biology and Chemistry Laboratories.

A Board of Management (BOM) which is representative of all school partners governs the school. The board meets on a regular basis and is comprised of the trustees (ETB), two parents’ representatives and two teacher representatives. The day to day management of the school is carried out by the school Principal and the school Deputy Principal. A Year Head takes responsibility for each year group and liaises with staff, students and parents.

Errigal College is a DEIS school (Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools) and offers all DES approved courses. The college also provides a suite of QQI Level 5 PLC courses. The college is unique in Letterkenny as it is the sole provider of co-education through the medium of English. The college can cater for up to 500 students and our students reflect the diverse nature of modern Ireland with many countries represented among our student cohort.

At Errigal College we aim to offer the highest quality educational experience for all our students and do so in the knowledge that each student has different learning needs and learning styles. We pride ourselves in providing a broad curriculum, encompassing formal academic programmes, personal development programmes and a wide range of extra-curricular activities. The college has a dedicated teaching staff who work tirelessly to provide excellence in the education of our students and as a learning community, our students continue to enjoy tremendous successes both at local and national level.
