BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition Success for ETB Students

Donegal ETB would like to congratulate its students on their entries and success at this year’s BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition. Thirteen out of the nineteen Donegal entries came from four Donegal ETB schools – Coláiste Ailigh, Letterkenny (5); Coláiste Chineál Eoghain, Buncrana (1); Deele College, Raphoe (1) and Magh Ene College, Bundoran (6) in a number of categories including Biological and Ecological; Chemical, Physical and Mathematical Sciences; Social and Behavioural Sciences and Technology.

Iarlaith Mac Fhionnghaille, a fifth-year Coláiste Ailigh student, scooped two major awards for his innovative project that demonstrates the effects that alcohol can have on motorists’ driving. His project involved analysing volunteers’ driving skills on a driving simulator before consuming four units of alcohol, and after. Four units of alcohol is equivalent to two pints of beer (4%) or two glasses of wine (13%). He came first in the Senior Individual Social and Behavioural Sciences Category, and also won the prize for the Best Project “as Gaeilge”.

Additionally another Coláiste Ailigh student, Chloe Ní Chiarain, was awarded the Biological and Ecological Junior Individual 3rd place, while three Magh Ene College 5th Year students, Aine Dillon, Katie Curran and Niamh Creevy, won 3rd place in the senior Biological and Ecological category.
