Atlantic Technological University (ATU) has officially signed articulation agreements with Donegal Education and Training Board (ETB). This collaboration will allow widening access to higher education across the region.

These articulation agreements provide learners in Further Education and Training (FET) with advanced entry routes from QQI Level 6 awards directly into Year 2 of selected undergraduate degree programmes at ATU. A total of 48 ATU programmes are included in this initiative, allowing successful applicants to gain entry without the need for additional assessment, subject to the availability of places and meeting entry requirements.

Commenting on the announcement, Dr Billy Bennett, Registrar and Chief Academic Officer, ATU, said: “Building on established Memoranda of Understanding and collaborative agreements, this initiative reaffirms the shared commitment of ATU and its ETB partners in supporting alternative pathways into higher education. It also complements ongoing efforts to develop tertiary education degrees and access routes that break down barriers faced by non-traditional learners.”

Speaking on behalf of Donegal ETB, Ciaran O’Brien, Director of FET, added, “Donegal ETB is proud to formalise this articulation agreement, which opens new doors for our students and deepens the connection between both organisations. Together, we are creating clear, supported routes to higher education that will transform lives and strengthen the community in Donegal and the Northwest”.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to continuously review and align curriculum offerings, ensuring that opportunities for learners across the region continue to grow. For example, learners who complete the QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Early Learning and Care in Donegal ETB may progress to year two of the BSc in Inclusive Practice for Special Needs Assistance in ATUs Letterkenny campus or one of the Early Childhood programmes offered across many of ATUs campuses.

Interested applicants can make direct applications via the ATU website. For more information, visit https://www.atu.ie/study/how-to-apply/advanced-entry-and-transfer-applicants.
