[lang_en-uk]Over the last few months the Youthreach centres have been busy preparing for the Youthreach Cook-Off Final 2011. Six teams, made up of two learners, represented each centre at the final on Tuesday 06 December. The contestants were Laura Brennan and Andrew Walker (Lifford), Dale Kerr and Jason Mc Elaney (Buncrana), Gary Kelly and Jamie McColgan (Glengad), Alistar McKee and Jack Matthew (Ballyshannon), Ryan Matthewson and Aaron Black (Letterkenny) and Katie O Shea and Regan O Brien (Gortahork).
Finalists began at 11.00am and had two hours to prepare and cook a main course and dessert. The dishes were judged by Raymond Moran, Chef at the award winning Harrys Restaurant in Bridgend in Inishowen and Cróna Gallagher, AEO and the Youthreach Programme line manager. Both judges were stunned by the quality of the food and skills used to prepare, cook and present them which made it very difficult to pick a winner. In the end the Gortahork team won with their baked mushroom risotto and chocolate zabaglione. Letterkenny were the runners up with their cottage pie and apple crumble sundae. Congratulations to all and a big thank you to the judges,Raymond and Cróna. We’re already looking forward to the 2012 competition![/lang_en-uk]
