Donegal ETB & Partners Develop Unique MSc in Therapeutic Interventions for Alcohol & Other Drugs

Donegal ETB, Letterkenny Institute of Technology and the North West Alcohol Forum have developed a unique Masters of Science degree/Postgraduate Diploma in Therapeutic Interventions for Alcohol and Other Drugs. This is the first Masters programme of its kind in the country.

Donegal ETB has been providing alcohol and other drugs education and training for almost ten years through its Alcohol and Other Drugs Training and Education Coordinator, North West Region, Christina Murray-McEleney. Donegal ETB’s long established partnership with the Alcohol Forum and their newly formed partnership with LYIT, created the opportunity to work on the development of this brand new course.

The aim the course is to equip students/practitioners to effectively deal with alcohol and other drug issues and to utilise recovery methods exploiting the best evidence and interventions by extending theoretical knowledge and practical skills to alleviate these issues. The course is specifically designed to encompass a wide range of disciplines and sectors because alcohol and other drug issues are encountered by health and social care workers, social workers, medical  and psychiatric nurses, doctors, teachers, youth and community workers, counsellors, Gardaí and probation staff among others.

Detailed information on this unique MSc can be found at http://www.lyit.ie/full-timecourses/nursinghealthstudies/lyntiadm/ . Closing date for applications is 28 August.
