Donegal Education and Training Board (ETB) has appointed Mr Evan Gorrell as a new additional Deputy Principal at Errigal College in Letterkenny.

The former Donegal ETB student (Abbey Vocational School, Donegal Town), holds a Bachelor of Education in Business Studies and Accounting, along with a Postgraduate Diploma and Master’s degree in Middle Leadership and Mentoring, all three of which were completed at Mary Immaculate College.

Alongside his teaching career in Errigal College, Evan has worked for the State Examinations Commission as a Leaving Certificate Business written examiner. He has also been involved with the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) as the Education and Training Boards Ireland (ETBI) representative on the Senior Cycle Business Redevelopment committee.

He has coordinated student voice activities, educational school tours and enrolment (jointly), as well as managing the school’s social media accounts, website and Erasmus project finances.

Speaking about his appointment, Evan said, “I am honoured to be appointed as a Deputy Principal in Errigal College. I am proud to be part of a school community that places such a strong emphasis on excellence in education, care, respect, equality and community, and I look forward to contributing to the continued development of the school in this new role.

“I am excited to work alongside school management, the dedicated staff, our students, parents and the wider community to build on the excellent work already taking place in Errigal College. I am particularly passionate about ensuring that every student feels supported, valued and encouraged to achieve their full potential, both within and beyond the classroom.

“I look forward to this new chapter in my career and to working collaboratively with the whole school community to shape an ambitious and positive future for Errigal College,” he added.

Errigal College, which is managed by Donegal ETB, has a school population of almost 735 students and 99 staff members, led by School Principal Danny McFadden.

It plays a central role in the educational life of its community, providing a broad, inclusive, and student-centred second-level and further education. As a DEIS post-primary school, it is committed to promoting high expectations, academic success, and positive outcomes for all learners.

Congratulating Evan on his appointment, Dr Martin Gormley, Director of Schools with Donegal ETB, said, “I am delighted to congratulate Evan on his appointment as Deputy Principal of Errigal College. Evan knows the school and its community very well and has already made a significant contribution to school life through his work with students, staff and the wider school community.

“Evan brings considerable experience, energy and commitment to the role and I know he will make a very positive contribution as a Deputy Principal. I wish Evan every success and look forward to seeing him work alongside Principal Danny McFadden, Deputy Principal Deirdre Markham and the entire school community as Errigal College continues to grow and develop,’’ he continued.

Errigal College is one of fifteen of the county’s twenty-seven post-primary schools under the management of Donegal ETB, the largest education and training provider in the county. In the previous academic year 2025-2026, over 6,000 students attended Donegal ETB post-primary schools.

The appointment comes as the school, located at Windyhall in Letterkenny, has enrolled the highest number of students in its history.

Evan takes up his appointment immediately.
