Crana College student to participate in the National Parent’s Council Conference

Crana College pupil to represent Transition Year students at the National Parent’s Council Conference

Darragh Harkin, a TY student at Crana College, was approached by Transition Year Ireland and invited to participate at the National Parent’s Council Conference in the INEC, Killarney this coming weekend. His selection was based on the online blogging which he does as part of his ICT module which has caught the eye of Transition Year Ireland on twitter.

This is not the first time that Crana College has been in the limelight for their technological prowess, with two of their TY students’ blogs having been among the top six students shortlisted in Best Individual Project category at the Eircom Junior Spiders Awards last year.

The blogs, which the students develop and maintain, are made more accessible by an iPad which each TY student receives at the beginning of the year. It’s reflective of the school’s commitment to the use of technology in education and contributes to the active learning of the pupils.

The upcoming conference, which will be attended by parents and school leaders from across the country, will address various topics of parental interest, one of which is ‘Demystifying Doss Year’. It will see the Crana College junior student of the year form one of four panellists taking questions on the nature of the Transition Year programme in second level schools.
